Card Ladies

The card ladies meet the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.  They recycle store-bought greeting cards to make new greeting cards, which they sell in the narthex at a very reasonable price.  They welcome you to join them for a fun time crafting, fellowship, and of course, coffee and treats!  If you would like to donate greeting cards, there is a designated box for them in the narthex (no Christmas cards, please.)

Community Meal

Every Wednesday evening at 5:00pm a community meal is served in the fellowship hall here at First Lutheran Church. The meal is free of charge, or if you wish, you may make a free will donation.

The meals are nutritious and are prepared and served by volunteers from the church congregation, as well as volunteers within the community. If you wish to help in this important ministry, please look at the sign-up sheets on the cart, located left side of the church as you enter. See who is in charge for the month and give them a call, or sign up to help.

There are four months of sign-up sheets posted on the cart, so one can plan around other activities. Many hands make the service easier. Thank you.

Cover Girls

The Cover Girls meet at 9:00 a.m. on the second and third Thursday each month in Fellowship Hall...

to make quilts, which are then sent to Lutheran World Relief or donated to needs within our community. You do not need to be a seamstress to attend…if you can tie a knot, you can be a Cover Girl (or Cover Man!) Of course, coffee and treats are served!

Shawl Ministry

The Purls of Prayer group meets every third Saturday of the month in the church library where we knit or crochet prayer shawls. We meet for fellowship and take the opportunity to pray for those that are celebrating a special occasion or are in need of healing prayers, while creating these beautiful tapestries of love.

We add to this important ministry by making smaller prayer shawls to be given to children who are ill and in need of comfort. These prayer shawls are made in the primary colors. We also make prayer patches—small enough to be carried in a purse or backpack.

Back Pack Project

Once again we are asking for Back Pack and school supplies to give to children in need. Please bring the items to church on or before the first day of school, at which time we will share in a blessing of the backpacks. These items can all be kept separated as the school gives out things as students need them.

Last year when we dropped off the back pack at the schools we were told that the backpacks would all be gone that week. There were over 50 dropped off. The need is great! So when you go by the school supplies as you are shopping, please purchase some of the items listed below and bring them to church to share. Thank you!

• New Backpacks • Pencils (Package) • Pens (Package) • Mechanical Pencils • Pencil Sharpeners • Folders • Erasers • Crayons (24 pack) • Colored Markers • Loose Leaf Paper (package) • Spiral Notebooks

1 Day Radio Ministry

First Lutheran Church sponsors the "Day 1" weekly segments on radio station WRLS - FM (92.3). These segments air at 8:30am every Sunday.

"Day 1," a voice of mainline Christian churches, presents messages by clergy representing mainline Christian faiths, including those of the ELCA. Peter Wallace, host for each broadcast, facilitates discussion with clergy on timely topics.

This radio ministry reaches our shut-ins, visitors to the area and others for whom regular worship and church affiliation are not a part of their daily lives.

The cost per broadcast is $30. The sponsorship may be in honor of a person or special occasion or in memory of a loved one and is open to all.
