Making It Happen
Contributions for Columbarium and Memorial Gardens

Tax deductible contributions are being sought for landscaping, and seating for the project.

Consider a donation to add to our church’s infrastructure creating a private and peaceful resting place on the church grounds.

The Columbarium is on the west wall of First Lutheran Church, architecturally the most beautiful side of the church. Walkways are along both sides of the church leading to that space. There will be two separated 8-foot walls, 6 feet high and about 2 feet wide, angled in chevron style to match the angles of that part of the church’s architecture. They are set on a concrete platform with appropriate seating and landscaping.

Just as the cemetery next to the old country church was a reminder of the “Communion of Saints”, a Columbarium is a visible reminder of the “Communion of Saints” that surround us. The word “columbarium” comes from the Latin word “columbary”, which is a structure for the nesting of doves – the dove being the symbol of God’s spirit and peace. The related word, columbarium, refers to a burial vault for the containment of urns holding cremated human remains. It is an old term and an old tradition used for centuries here and abroad.

Donations can be made in any amount. Checks should be made out to “FLC Columbarium”; please  indicate that you are donating for the Columbarium & Memorial Garden on your check. Give directly to the Church Office or one of the members of the Columbarium committee. The funds will be segregated and designated only for creating the infrastructure needed for the columbarium and memory wall.
