OPERATION CHRISTMAS 2020 (Curbside)

Things will look and move a little different this year due to COVID but Operation Christmas 2020 is underway. Now more than ever many in our area are in need. First Lutheran Church along with the caring help of Hayward United Methodist Church and Ascension Episcopal Church again is undertaking the annual Christmas project.

Our goal is to provide a blessed Christmas with all the trimming to 220 families and/or individuals. Each family will receive the following: a tote/basket filled with nonperishable food items like peanut butter, cereal etc., a holiday pie, fudge candy, a bag of
potatoes and carrots, frozen hamburger, a coupon for a 4lb. Ham, and fresh fruit (apples, oranges, and bananas). In addition each child in the family is provided with a Christmas gift. This truly is a blessed Christmas for those we serve.

We still plan on providing cookies for shut-in members. Cookies can be dropped off at church Monday, December 14th. No nuts and please follow food hygiene practices including masks & gloves when preparing and packaging food.

We will again be collecting mittens and hats for area schools. Drop off at the church during normal business hours.

We will begin taking telephone calls and completing request forms for food boxes November 23rd, with the last day to take requests on December 4, 2020. Call Center Hours are Monday – Friday 9a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Call 715-634-2141. Distribution this year will be curbside: Friday, December
18th 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 19th 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Due to the ability to purchase food through Feed My People at a much reduced price we are asking you again to consider a monetary donation to be used to purchase the food items for the baskets.

The Operation Christmas Bulletin Board (located in the First Lutheran Church Narthex) will have red and green tree tags for the needed $10.00 to $15.00 gifts for children, through grade 12. Please take a tree tag, purchase and wrap the gift and tape tag back on the gift. Alternatively we will
be happy to mail trees to anyone who wants to save a trip into town to pick them up – just call the church during call center operation hours and they will be sent to you. Monetary donations are always welcome (let us do your shopping for you). Gifts can then be placed in the large gift wrapped box by the bulletin board. Because of size variation, clothes are not recommended. Gift cards are a great idea for teens!

The LAST day to bring gifts in will be Monday, December 14th.
